It’s safe to say we’ve been very impressed so far with this part of France! It’s definitely been a brilliant eye-opener and we look forward to finding out more about the region. The laidback charm of the region means that people here are more likely to stick around to have a conversation with you, point you in the right direction if you’re lost or even help you find the best restaurant nearest to you!Ĩ.) This is the kinda place where you’d wanna get lost in the cobble streets of its many beautiful villages.ĩ.) The best airports to fly into for the region are Brive or Bergerac.ġ0.) The Dordogne Valley is located in the South West of France… which probably explains the warm weather here. Even the villages locals thing are just run of the mill are pretty spectacular.ģ.) The food is pretty great here too! Turns out the region is known for its gastronomy! Gastro-holiday anyone?Ĥ.) The weather is actually quite good! Granted today was a cloudier day than normal (with sunshine popping its head out every so often) but the temperature meant that, despite the clouds, this is still t-shirts and shorts weather (which is a lot more than I can say for London!)ĥ.) There are almost a 1,000 castles here meaning your dreams of living in a castle or perhaps even staying in one overnight is bound to come true here.Ħ,) There are more UNESCO World Heritage sites than you can shake a stick at!ħ.) It’s our very first time visiting and now that we’re here, we honestly don’t know what took us so long to visit. As late in to the year as November and as early as April, temperatures are back up in the fifties.We are in Dordogne and you know what that means – photo updates time! The average winter temperature in the region is in the forties, which is not particularly cold for most people traveling from other parts of the world at that time. The weather is usually very good - temperatures are typically around 25-30 degrees, and rain is unusual although evening storms are quite common. The foundations of Fénelon castle date back to the 14th century. Set on a rocky promontory overlooking the Dordogne Valley, it is located in the village of Sainte-Mondane.
